Judith Moore received her PhD from Cornell University with specializations in eighteenth-century British literature and prose fiction. She taught at Fisk University and the State University College at Oswego (New York) prior to coming to UAA in 1984. At UAA, she has taught primarily eighteenth-century British literature, critical history and critical theory, poetry, and Classical, Biblical, and Far Eastern literature in translation. In addition to scholarly articles, poems, and short fiction, she is the co-author (with Ann C. Colley) of Starting with Poetry, and the author of A Zeal for Responsibility: The Struggle for Professional Nursing in Victorian England, 1868-1883 and The Appearance of Truth: The Story of Elizabeth Canning and Eighteenth-Century Narrative. She has recently completed a book on Restoration literary culture, Samuel Pepys and the Contexts of Restoration Writing: Defining a Literary Period and is now at work on a book introducing ancient texts in translation to general readers.
